More About Eric

Eric Bowers is a certified Nonviolent Communication Trainer through the Center for Nonviolent Communication. Eric is also training to become a certified Dynamic Governance Trainer. He has worked as a Children Who Witness Abuse Counsellor and Victim Services Worker. Prior to his work in Communication and Counselling, Eric was an avid white water kayaker and an expedition river guide in BC, the Yukon, and Alaska.

Based in Nelson, BC, Eric offers workshops and courses, consulting, mediation, and personal sessions in many walks of life. Eric has given professional development training for various government agencies; he has consulted with businesses - from website companies to retreat centers - towards building needs-conscious workplaces where employees can thrive; he has supported students to create peace tables and no-fault classrooms; he has worked with youth groups and youth peer supporters; and he has supported individuals, couples, and groups to learn the tools of NVC so they can find more empowerment, authenticity, compassion, and connection in their lives.

Personal Journey

My youth was a very difficult time of my life: It was challenging for me to connect with my family, I had little connection to my school, and almost no connection to my community. I had no sense of purpose or vision for my life, except to fit in and be accepted by my peers. Without a dream for my life and a clear picture of the kind of person I wanted to be, I made regretful choices in attempting to find belonging and self-value. I was not motivated to contribute to life; I hid from life. There was no one I turned to for support; I didn't know I needed it.

As an adult, I have come out of hiding and let myself be seen and heard. I find joy in belonging and contributing when working with groups, volunteering, counselling, playing with children, and being involved in community. My wish for young people is that they value themselves, find a vision for their life, and get the support they need to create their dreams. I am grateful for all the opportunities to help people discover and share their authenticity. More and more I am inspired to support groups of people to move forward wih their shared purpose and realize their collective vision.
